Jesters v. Blackheath - Sunday 26 June 2005

Played under pleasant conditions, Jesters went through the Blackheath side’s early batsmen. Alistair Evans taking 5-25 off 9, Huw Opppen 2-32 off 11 and Billy Harris 3-51 off 15. Jesters bowled Blackheath all out for 166, Mathew Hepple was tidy behind the stumps and all rallied to keep the home side very much contained. Having had a small nightmare getting a side out we ended using 3 non-cricketers, Phil Swan, Martin King and Steve Biglin and a friend of Alistair’s called James who fielded for one of our squad who didn’t turn up.

Opening the Batting Tony Withers got off to a good start scoring 29 before being given out LBW. His opening partnership with Mathew Hepple (34) took us to 56 for one. Mathew was then joined by Billy Harris who promptly took apart the bowling with great maturity, ending with 71. The Jesters got the required runs with six down sealing a 4 wicket victory in the seventh of the last 20 overs. So after defeats in recent weeks the Jesters got back to winning ways in advance of their forthcoming tour to Somerset. Bring it on!
